A vocalist by training, Kate began composing instrumental music in the 1980s once personal computers became user-friendly for musicians. She composes entirely on computer using synthesized instruments and music notation software. Kate has collaborated with choreographers in her instrumental projects, including “Madonna Confessions” commissioned by choreographer Karen Bernard. Her compositions “Marsupial Fantasie” and “Goldwyn Variations” were choreographed for dance performances by New York choreographer Maja Lorkovic. Kate has a BM in Music and an MFA in Arts Management, both from the University of Iowa. Kate has performed her satirical songs with computer accompaniment in nightclubs in New York and Los Angeles. She was the featured musical artist in “Chicago Women in Comedy” at the Organic Theater in Chicago, her hometown. Her music been heard nationwide on radio on “The Dr. Demento Show”. She also won Garrison Keillor’s love song contest and had her work performed live on his public radio broadcast, “The American Radio Company”. Her video program “Kate O’Neal and Three Intelligent Women” was produced and presented by Pasadena Cable for television.
