Lauren Bernofsky holds an undergraduate degree in violin and composition from the Hartt School of Music, a master's degree in composition from the New England Conservatory, and a doctorate in composition from Boston University, where her principal teacher was Lukas Foss.
Lauren Bernofsky's catalog numbers over eighty works, representing a wide variety of ensembles. She has written two string quartets, five brass quintets and a brass trio, solo brass, string, and woodwind pieces, piano music, choral music, songs, as well as larger-scale works for band and orchestra. In addition to writing for professional performers, she has a strong commitment to creating music for young musicians, and she finds writing for an exuberant five-year-old equally as rewarding as for a seasoned professional.
Her music has been performed across the United States as well as in Canada, Germany, Norway, , England, Wales, Iceland, New Zealand, and Australia. Her works are published by Frank E. Warren Music Service, The FJH Music Company, Dorn Publications, Micropress (UK), Hal Leonard, Alfred Publishing, and Boosey & Hawkes.
