Celebration!

Brian Wilbur Grundstrom

About this work:
With all its excitement and vigor, as well as its interesting unexpected turns, Celebration! is the perfect way to open a concert. Celebration! draws on a wide palette of influences, notably the celebrated "Americana" style of Aaron Copland, with its sturdy harmonies and open spaces. Yet Grundstrom brings a distinctive approach to tonality, maintaining an essential tonal foundation while avoiding key signatures. "The absence of a key signature gives me the freedom necessary to use tonality in more interesting ways, letting my ear guide my music along its path." The attached recording of Celebration! was premiered by SONOS Chamber Orchestra in 2003 with Erik E Ochsner director. Celebration! was also performed by The Trinity Chamber Orchestra with Richard Fazio conducting in January 2005
