Matthew R. Durrant was born in Logan, Utah on September 19, 1985 and grew up in Preston, Idaho. There he became interested in music and began taking piano lessons at age 5. His interest in music soon spread to composition and he began writing music in high school. After high school he attended Boise State University and graduated with a B.M. in Music Composition and a B.M. in Piano Performance. He recently completed a Master of Music degree in Composition from the University of Utah.
He is currently a Doctoral candidate and graduate teaching assistant at the University of Utah. Although he has written for many different instruments the majority of his works are for winds and/or brass. His music has received public performances at SCI conferences, recitals, and new music festivals in Idaho, Washington, Nebraska, Utah, Kentucky, and Texas.
