About the Online Library

The Online Library is a searchable database that provides on-demand access to digital scores, sound files and biographical information on composers. Launched in 2001, the Online Library now contains data on more than 57,000 works (including 14,000 media files) by 5,600 composers. In addition to works uploaded by users the Online Library includes data from Boosey & Hawkes, Carl Fischer, C.F. Peters, G. Schirmer, & Schott Music Corporation/European American Distributors, making it one of the largest databases of new American music.

The Online Library is a one-stop resource for anyone in need of information about new American music, from a conductor looking for choral works on a given theme to an ensemble searching for repertoire that fits its unusual instrumentation to a scholar studying the string quartets of a particular composer.

Please note: New Music USA does not maintain a physical collection of any kind. Any printed scores or manuscripts held by the American Music Center are now part of a special collection at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. Please contact the Music Division for more information.

About New Music USA

New Music USA is committed to the vitality of the new music community. We mean the whole new music community, from composers to performers to presenters, producers, die-hard fans, casual listeners, curious minds, and beyond. When someone listens, recommends a favorite to a friend, creates or performs a new work, or maybe even commissions a new piece, we're making the whole community stronger—and bigger. We're helping new music reach new ears every day.

We at New Music USA are passionate advocates for new music focused on what brings the community together in the first place: the music.

Our approach to advocacy takes many forms. We provide over $1 million each year in grant support for the creation and performance of new work and community building throughout the country. We amplify the voice of the new music community through NewMusicBox, profiling the people and ideas that energize and challenge music makers today. We stream a wide-ranging catalog of new music around the clock on Counterstream Radio and, of course, this site to serve as an online home for composers to feature their own music.

As an organization, New Music USA is part of a community of advocates for the arts. We are part of the Performing Arts Alliance, the International Association of Music Information Centers, and other networks of advocates for the arts.

We're always looking for new ways advance the cause of the new music, and inspire an ever-growing community of listeners.
