About this work:
'Shaanti', which means 'Peace' in Sanskrit, was composed for the occasion of Human Rights Day, 2004, and premiered at the Tillman Chapel of the United Nations headquarters, New York. It is a setting of an Urdu poem, 'Ham jang na hone denge' ('We will not sanction war') by my late father, the renowned Pakistani poet and musicologist, Afzal Parwez.
