Brian M Rosen (b 1971) is a San Francisco based composer/performer specializing in works that marry music and theater. Born into a family of performers, he spent much of his youth in the concert hall or theater, either rehearsing and performing or watching his fellow family members rehearse or perform. He studied composition at Interlochen Arts Academy and Princeton University while simultaneously earning a degree in computer graphics. After being hired as one of the original crew members on Pixar's ground breaking feature film Toy Story, Brian took a ten year break from major musical activities to continue work on Pixar's impressive slate of films.
Since 2000, Brian continues to play an active role in Pixar's technology, but has reentered the world of music composition and performance. As a vocalist and actor, Brian performs in venues throughout the United States, including the 2001 PBS Great Performances production of Sweeney Todd in Concert. As a composer, Brian has written and arranged an entire album of material for his a cappella ensemble The Richter Scales, completed a commissioned operatic adaptation of Alice in Wonderland for Cinnabar Opera Theater, and most recently completed his first string quartet. He is currently developing a solo opera that is scheduled to be produced in 2010 called "Failing That".
