Dan Coleman was born in New York City in 1972.
He is currently in his third season as Composer-in-Residence with the Tucson Symphony, after being named "Music Alive" Composer-in-Residence for the 2002-2003 season, as part of a national residency program of the American Symphony Orchestra League and Meet The Composer.
Dan's music has been performed by Orpheus, the Dallas Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Honolulu Symphony, Utah Symphony, American Composers Orchestra, New York Chamber Symphony, St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble, Seattle Chamber Music Society, clarinetist David Shifrin, violinist Ida Kavafian, among others.
Dan's music has also been honored with the Aaron Copland Award, Whitaker Commission from the American Composers Orchestra, Victor Herbert/ASCAP award, New York Youth Symphony "FirstMusic 12" orchestral commission, Arizona Commission on the Arts Fellowship, Charles Ives Scholarship of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Presser Foundation Grant, Haddonfield Symphony Composers’ Competition, Auros Group for New Music Chamber Music Competition, NFMC Beyer Chamber Music Award, a Carlisle Project Composer/Choreographer Grant, and fellowships to the MacDowell Colony and Yaddo.
Dan was the first Composer-in-Residence ever on the roster of Young Concert Artists, and has been a Composer-in-Association with the Metamorphosen Chamber Orchestra . Other residencies have included Alpenglow Chamber Music Festival, Music From Angel Fire, the Yellowstone Music Festival, and the Seattle Chamber Music Festival.
His music has been recorded for the Albany Centaur, Crystal, and Summit record labels.
