Darrell Acree was born in Kentucky in 1945. His education was in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering and he is now retired from his engineering career at the Georgia Institute of Technology where he worked in electromagnetics and antenna analysis. A largely self-taught amateur musician all his life, he began serious composition about ten years ago. His preferred medium is the string quartet, generally writing in a free atonal style.
