Active as a composer and pianist in the greater Boston area, Erik K. Gustafson has continued to serve as Composer-in-Residence of Old South Church in Boston. As an alum of Harvard College and of Indiana University, School of Music (Bloomington), Erik has continued to write for numerous occasions and in varying styles within the context of his own artistic voice. Erik’s music has been included in several area events and services, such as a program for the 2014 national convention of the American Guild of Organists: Into the Light: A Journey with Jesus of Nazareth. Erik’s music has reached wide audiences as well through his YouTube channel and through recordings, including Sam Ou’s and Harry Huff’s CD: With String and Pipe (2012). Erik’s music has had performances by many established performers and ensembles, such as by vocal artists Adriana Repetto, Carrie Cheron, and Rob Woodin, by instrumentalists, including Willie Sordillo, and by choral ensembles, such as Musica Sacra (Mary Beekman, Director). As a proponent of life-long learning, Erik has enjoyed opportunities for ongoing education, including having studies with Alice Parker and attending courses at Harvard Divinity School and at Hebrew College. Recently, Erik has concluded a second residency as Composer Fellow at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA). Currently, Erik has been working on a new CD recording project for piano solo, For a Moment.
