Composer Michael P. Sweeney (bn.1982) is a recent Bachelor of Music graduate of St. Olaf College. He graduated with departamental distinction in Theory and Composition and is now preparing to apply for graduate work.
In 2005 he premiered several works, including Chimaera at his Senior Recital at Urness Recital Hall, A Journey Through the Dark Funkscape with the St. Olaf Band, Dr. Timothy Mahr, cond., and don’t step in the darkness with St. Olaf Jazz I, Dave Hagedorn, cond. He premiered his work transmogrifications at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis, and a choral work, Alleluia, with the Manitou Singers. Other works include music for orchestra, choir, jazz ensemble, solo piano, and solo voice. He has studied composition and electronic music with Justin Merritt, Timothy Mahr, and Peter Hamlin.
