Wang An-Ming
Wang An-Ming was born in Shanghai, China. She received her musical
training in China and in the United States. She holds a B.E. Degree from Central China University (an affiliate of Yale University), a B.M. degree (magna cum laude) from Wesleyan Conservatory, and an M.A. degree from Columbia University. She also studied at the Juilliard School of Music.
Ms. Wang's works include keyboard, vocal, instrumental, chamber ensemble,
choral, operatic, and orchestral compositions. Her works have been performed at the White House, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the National Gallery of Art, and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C. Her compositions were also performed at the Carnegie Recital Hall in New York City, the Spoleto Music Festival in Charleston, S.C., and in major music festivals throughout the United States. Her full length opera, "Lan Ying", was premiered at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. It also won second place in a national competition sponsored by the National League of American Pen Women. Her flute and piano compositions, "Solemn Silhouettes" and "Kapalua", won First Prize at the National Mid-Administration Congress of the National Pen Women's League. She was awarded a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council. Her music has been televised and broadcast in the United States and abroad. She is the recipient of several ASCAP Awards.
Her published works are: "The Song of Endless Sorrow" (a song cycle for high
voice) and "Songs for all Seasons", were both published by the Yueh Yun Music Publishing House in Taiwan. Her choral anthem, "The Christmas Gift" (for mixed chorus and keyboard) was published by the Santa Barbara Music Publishing in California. Her flute and piano composition, "East Wind", was included in a CD entitled "Sounds Like 1996: Music by Asian-American Artists", issued by ElL of Chicago, IL. The same piece was published by the Hildegard Music Publishing Company in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Her composition, "Fantasy for Solo Organ," was published by the Vivace Press in Wisconsin. A CD recording containing this piece was released by Albany Records. "Kapalua" for flute and piano, and "Dazzling Jewels" for voice and piano were both published by the Gold Branch Music, Inc., in North Carolina. Her piano composition, "Danse chinoise", was included in a CD and issued by Capstone Records.
Ms. Wang is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota Composer Bureau, the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP); the American Music Center; the International Alliance for Women in Music; The Friday Morning Music Club; Society of Composers, Inc.; the National Federation of Music Clubs; and the National League of American Pen Women, Inc.
