Fifth Annual Cherry Blossom Festival / Concert - The Art of Japanese Shakuhachi Flute by Gerald Starlight


The Fifth Annual Cherry Blossom Festival is a celebration of the spring season. Composer/performer Gerald Starlight will present a program of new music for the shakuhachi at 5pm at Gallery RIVAA (Roosevelt Island Visual Arts Association), also at the gallery will be demonstrations of ink painting, origami and calligraphy from 1pm to 4pm; with additional performances at Manhattan Park along Main Street from 12noon to 4pm featuring traditional and contemporary music for koto ensemble, shamisen string quartet, taiko drumming and a japanese blues group; plus traditional dance and martial arts; 11am to 1pm is the tea ceremony and picnics; 4pm to 7pm will be sake tasting at Island Wines and Spirits on Main Street. The festival is from 11am to 7pm. All events are free. Directional signage will be posted on kiosks and guides will be available to direct visitors to Gallery Rivaa, Manhattan Park and Island Wines and Spirits.
