Shapirit Y'fehfiah (Beautiflu Dragonfly

Judith Shatin

About this work:
Shapirit Y’fehfiah (Pretty Dragonfly) is a setting of a poem by Israeli poet Mira Meir. I composed it while in residence at Mishkan Amanim in Herzliah, Israel. Run by poet Varda Genossar, Mishkan Amanim is a quiet oasis. While in Israel, I had the opportunity to meet Ms. Meir, and was delighted by her poetry. The translation which my husband, Michael Kubovy, and I devised gives a sense of the delicacy and whimsy of the original. I tried to capture some of these attributes in the music, which moves with a light step.
