The Great Bridge, for two drum sets

Robert Cucinotta

About this work:
This work for two standard drum sets was composed in 1981 and is dedicated to the Roebling family and the builders of the Brooklyn Bridge. This is the composer's second piece inspired by the mythic structure. The first, "The sky is waiting..," for solo drum set was written for Ray Marchica in 1976. In this duo, the composer makes extensive use of rhythmic canons which create panning and antiphonal effects. The reoccurrence of the lively theme gives the work a rondo-like form. The work was premiered by Larry Spivack and Jason Cirker at a New and Newer Music concert on November 1, 1983 at Bargemusic overlooking the Great Bridge. It is published by Kirkside Music (ASCAP).
