Eternity's Music Faint and Far

Jay Vosk

About this work:
Eternity's Music Faint and Far for Bassoon and Piano is the second in a series of musical meditations based on the poetry of Walt Whitman. Essentially, the work is a lyrical song. I set much of the piece in the bassoon's upper register thus taking advandage of the instrument's 'singing quality. The lines in the piano are fluid and meant not to conflict with the prominance of the bassoon. Just as Whitman's verse has the power to stir the imagination of the reader, it is my hopw that this work has a simikiar affect on the imagination of the listener.
