Songs of the Anonymous Lover
Trevor Weston
About this work:
Songs of the Anonymous lover was composed for a friend, Stephanie Pan, who specializes in early music vocal performances. The piece uses three poems written by anonymous 14th century French poets and makes musical references to motets of the same period. The music of Guillaume de Machaut and other Ars nova composers was a point of departure for most of this work. The Middle movement reflects a more contemporary reflection of the text with the use of glissandi and more dissonant and static harmonies. The last movement is an upbeat mélange of music from the 15th – 17th centuries.
