Duolog I

Ernesto P. Pellegrini

About this work:
This work was commissioned by Brian Minor and premiered by him in 1977. It exemplifies a style of writing similar to that employed in other works of this composer such as Movement III, for piano and Movement IV, for solo violin. Based on a singular musical cell [012] which is continuously developed throughout, the work places the alto saxophone against the piano in a free and yet competitive manner. The altissimo tessitura of the saxophone, coupled with extensive use of the low and high piano ranges, makes this work a real challenge for both performers. This work is available through Dorn Publications.
