About this work:
AUTOMATA was composed especially for President David Skorton's Inauguration at Cornell University on September 7th 2006 and features a quadraphonic speaker array that performs a four-channel tape piece. Automata is written in the spirit of the fanciful music machines of ancient courts, weaves together a musical tapestry of different sounds that to me best represent “Cornell”. The theme, "C-D-E-A-A", is a musical anagram for "Cornell" that connects different ideas like the Fibonacci Series, change-ringing, and sound spatialization.
