About this work:
This piece was written for the 2005 Oregon Bach Festival Composers' Symposium, and was premiered in Eugene in July 2005 by members of the New York City-based Fireworks Ensemble. Having never written for bass or marimba I was a bit daunted, and since the premiere I have had a chance to fix a few problems the performers and I encountered the first time around. I am very grateful to Joe and Eric for putting in the hard work to give the piece a second performance in its new and improved guise. As for the reasons behind the title...well, that's a darn good question.
