Additional Instrumentation Notes: This piece contains two groups: The New Music Ensemble and the Orchestra. Alto sax plays an air-raid siren at end of piece. Tenor sax doubles on Bb clarinet. Violin and cello in the NME are both amplified. Percussion battery: Bass drum, crotales (2 A's), mini splash cymbal, glockenspiel, marimba, timpani, tam-tam. Synthesizer settings: 01) Rich, loud string sound with a strong edge (containing two simultaneous octaves). 02) Piano sound. 03) Soft string sound (AM synthesis) with a touch of piano noticeable on attacks. 04) Soft strings with stronger piano, pick bass, and synthesized-like bass. 05) Combination of two simultaneous pianos and a touch of pick bass (for the low register). 2nd flute doubles on piccolo. 1st clarinet doubles on Eb clarinet; 2nd clarinet doubles on bass clarinet.
