Commissioned by Susan Waterbury (a former member of the Cavani Quartet and currently a violin professor at Ithaca College) with additional assistance provided by a University of Memphis Faculty Research Grant. Premiered in June 1999 by the Kamran Ince Ensemble tour of Turkey & Cyprus, Susan Waterbury, violin soloist.
Additional Instrumentation Notes:
This is a violin concerto. Flute, violin, both voices, and cello are amplified. Synth doubles on acoustic piano. The high voice is female, low voice is male. Both voices use a straight (Medieval-like) sound. Synthesizer sounds: 01) Combination of soft string sound (AM synthesis), piano sound, and pick bass sound (sounds where written) with a mix raio of (10 being highest) 10, 7, 4 respectively. 02) Combination of soft string sound (AM synthesis), piano sound, and fretless bass sound (sounds 8vb) with a mix ratio of 10, 1.5, 10 respectively. Bass activated only C2-G2. 03) Combination of soft string sound (AM synthesis), piano sound, and pick bass sound (sounds where written) with a mix ratio of 10, 8, 6 respectively.
