Sun on Snow

Barbara Benary

About this work:
The piece is built from an anagramatic poem. The poem is of single syllable words - read horizontally to generate the first verse, vertically for the second. Each of the five movements is derived by a fairly strict mathematical process, following the general rule that the number of letters in a word determines its pitch. These processes serves as structures for improvisation as well. Thus each performance or ensemble’s rendition will differ.
