Commit Thy Way Unto The Lord
Matthew Baier
About this work:
Commit Thy Way Unto The Lord (1980) Text on Psalm 37:5,6, &7a
This short a cappella piece was composed during my time on the “Hillside” during my undergraduate studies in music at Nyack College. Its musical influences were drawn from Pinkham and Vaughn Williams with its modal setting and occasional extended chord harmony. Looking back, it was my intention as J.S. Bach had suggested that, “The aim of and final reason of all music should be nothing else but the Glory of God and the refreshment of the spirit”. The psalms a source of meditation, prayer, comfort and spiritual renewal were themselves often sung and or accompanied by music. Some twenty-seven years later this work still seems to achieve its intended purpose and is a reminder and renewal of the essence of ones faith.
Commit thy way unto the Lord
Trust also in him.
And He shall bring this to pass
He shall bring forth thy righteousness as light
And thy judgments as the noonday
Rest upon the Lord
Wait patiently on Him
His mercy is to all generations
Amen
