As the Earth Brings Forth Her Bud

Kevin McCarter

About this work:
The energy of sprouting, budding, blooming is reflected not only in changing harmonies and melodic gestures but also in the way phrases of text grow together. The words are adapted from Isaiah 61:11 and 43:19. "As the earth brings forth her bud, and as a garden brings its seeds to blossom, so the Lord God will make righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations. Behold, I am doing a new thing: Now it springs up; do you not see it?" The recording is from the premiere performance by the Manhattan Choral Ensemble on March 8, 2008.
