The tune of the Frog Galliard is taken from English lutenist and composer John Dowland (1563-1626). Often paired with a pavane, a galliard is a late Renaissance dance form in triple time. Dowland also used this well-known tune for the song Now, Oh, Now I Needs Must Part from his First Book of Songs.
