SA! for Violin and Electronics
Leon Milo
About this work:
“Sa!” (1999), for violon solo & electronics is music made up of impressions, seeds, sonorities and various modes of playing from different times...other cultures. The violinist, light and mobile, is a traveler. His voice, moves throughout the concert hall, passes through different sonorus worlds and at times, leaves behind a lingering trace of this journey.
Electronics are played back a multichannel audio sequence from 4 to 8 channels, depending on the possible configuration of the performance space.
The electronic sounds come mostly from intruments which can be bowed...marimbas, vibraphones, crotales, gongs, various string instruments and“borrowed” sounds from a range of recordings. Physical modeling programs were used to create virtual instruments which were then excited or “bowed” with samples from real sources. The result is a orchestra made up of real and imaginary bowed instruments.
