1. St. Augustine 2. Sang pour Sang Cane River is in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. It was the first part of Louisiana to be settled by the French. St. Augustine is on lower Cane River and was established by free men of color in the 18th century. Sang pour Sang (blood for blood) was a battle fought near Cloutierville between St, Denis and his indian allies, and a rival tribe. This battle established French control over the region.
