Danse Pour Rien

Jay Vilnai

About this work:
In Danse Pour Rien two instruments with similar ranges and timbre - the cello and bass clarinet - try to figure out how to play together. The attempt to define their roles as soloists, accompanists, partners in counterpoint, etc., only to have one of them abandon his role or else become to zealous about it and overshoot. It's a short study about how difficult it is for two voices to just have a decent conversation, and it ends in abrupt frustration. The first three pages of the score here are in concert. The complete score and transposed parts are available upon request.
