New Market

Roger M. Aldridge

About this work:

Here's something different!  New Market is a fiddle tune with a mix of old-time and contemporary styles.

This tune represents a vision that I've had since the early 1990's of old-time fiddle music being an early branch of the jazz family tree. In this vision I see jazz players going back to these roots and discovering the music. It's my hope that the tunes that I've written in various fiddle styles will also be discovered. I specifically had jazz players in mind when I wrote New Market; however, if it catches on with traditional fiddle players it's perfectly fine with me. :)

Recorded by Amy Leonard, violin; E. Shawn Qaissaunee, guitar; Peter McCarthy, bass.
