Hyper-Funk is a good description for this number. Moving through a series of motifs, "Pathfinder" does not just rely on one or two chords, but instead moves through a series of ever-evolving harmonies. The bass-part is especially challenging and it's slight dissonance adds considerable interest to the piece. The MP3 is a shorter version featuring a saxophone solo.
