'Night Piece' #10 (Quiet Nights in the Hudson Highlands) further subtitled 'The Copland House'.
I used to live in the Hudson Highlands quite a few hills north of Aaron Copland's residence. A couple of times I visited his home and was struck by the quietude of his lifestyle and surrounding landscape. High above the Hudson River his studio had a broad expanse of windows affording views of the Highlands and the river below. It is now a retreat for composers seeking the same tranquil beauty that Copland so enjoyed.
#10 is perhaps the "Night Piece" that I am most fond of playing. The attached MP3 is a live concert recording by Elizabeth DiFelice, co-ordinator of the piano department at Princeton University.
