About this work:
The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Neal Gittleman, Music Director, commissioned Fanfare for a City for the celebration of the Bicentennial of the city of Dayton. Neal Gittleman conducted the Dayton Philharmonic in the premiere of the piece on December 31, 1995.
Written in the form of a concert fanfare, the composition attempts to capture the energy and the rhythms of a city with a history rich in industry and innovation. Since its premiere, Fanfare for a City has received many performances in the United States and in Europe. The piece was included on a special Concert for Peace in 1999 in a joint concert by the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra commemorating the fourth anniversary of the signing of the historic Dayton Peace Accords.
