About this work:
Prelude was composed for James Popejoy and the Greater Grand Forks Youth Symphony of Grand Forks, North Dakota, USA. The work is largely based on a three-note motive that appears at the beginning in an aleatoric texture. The work combines aleatoric and conventional techniques to create a musical framework around a main theme that appears in canon at the fourth, sixth, and octave in the brass.
