About this work:
Fanfare on a North Dakota Theme was commissioned by and composed for Gordon Brock and the University of North Dakota Wind Ensemble. The work is based entirely on the UND fight song “Stand Up and Cheer”. Every note of the fight song melody, in its original order, is present in the fanfare, though considerably distilled and disguised. The most recognizable portion of the melody occurs in the opening moments, returning in varied form throughout the fanfare, as it does in the original song.
