About this work:
Event was inspired by, and is dedicated to my oldest daughter, Solveig Brigitte Bloomquist. The event to which the title refers is her birth, the only time that I have reached complete self-unawareness for an extended period of time (six hours, to be precise). The first movement, “Experience”, is a reflection of the self-conscious state, when moments are observed from the outside and one can sense the passage of time. During these moments, several different thoughts may occupy the mind simultaneously. Problems may be solved, situations may be considered, or anxiety may take over. The second movement, “Essence”, attempts to represent the self-unaware, a more elusive state due to the rapid passage of time and a lack of detailed memory. One becomes completely focused, and rather than being in control or an observer of the situation at hand, the self is controlled by and absolutely part of the “event”.
