Inversation

Michael Wittgraf

About this work:
I wrote a piece for oboe and clarinet entitled Conversation in the spring of 1992 that was not played for three years. I enjoyed the piece so much that I thought it deserved more attention from me, so I electronically sampled a reading session of the piece and used those portions that contained speaking, warming up, and mistakes (in other words, the stuff “between” the music) to create Inversation in 1995. The work uses more than 130 stereo and mono samples. This recording was made using Vision sequencing software, a Macintosh Quadra 650 computer, and a Roland S-760 Sampler.
