About this work:
Chamber of Dreams is a series of three musical “dreams” featuring scenarios depicted in Balthus’s paintings. The three movements the piece and their respective titles are a homage to his series of réves (or dreams): Le Réve I, Le Réve II and Le Réve III. The form of each movement is a fantasia-like A-B-A. The paintings addressed are: La Rue (1929), La Chambre (1952-4), Frédérique (1955), La Leçon de Guitare (1934), Le chat de La Mediterranée (1949), and L’attente (1995-2001).
