Wormhole por la Número Dos

About this work:
Notes about the title of the piece:
Around the time of the conception of this piece I had watched a television documentary about wormholes. A wormhole is a hypothetical space-time concept; a shortcut, or passageway in space interconnected by at least two mouths. I found this concept to be fascinating and very musical at the same time. In “Wormhole por la Número Dos” I evoke the overall image of a two-mouthed wormhole with an almost-incessant rhythm embodied within.
Basically, the title “Wormhole por la Número Dos” can be divided into two portions: 1) “Wormhole...” and 2) “...por la Número Dos.” The first portion depicts the overall shape of the piece (a wormhole): at the beginning, music comes out of nothingness and into a “tunnel” of continuous events; then, at the end of the piece, these events sum up climactically out of the “tunnel” and into nothingness once again. The second portion portrays the constant pulse of the piece: the “Número Dos” is a road in Puerto Rico that runs across the whole island; the “heartbeat” of the piece is based on common rhythmical characteristics found in Puerto Rican Salsa music, which is actually heard across the whole island. This road is symbolic of the ceaseless rhythm contained in the “tunnel” of the piece.
This is “Wormhole por la Número Dos” in brief.
