About this work:
Movement 1 - A Pleasant Day. A piece beginning and returning to the same character, conforming to the title, of having a slow,gentle beat and using only a few instruments. In its middle the piece becomes more animated. Movement 2 - A Wartime interruption. A loud, fast beat interrupts the peace of the first movement, and continues to do so with more of the same and new material thruout the second up to an abrupt loud ending. Movement 3 - Restored calm. A slow beat, new melody, and pedal note fulfill the promise of the title and continue with intrduction of voices to a quiet end.
