Concertino for Piano and Four Diverse Instruments (or String Orchestra)

Douglas Townsend

About this work:
Commissioned by the Bloomingdale School of Music, which performed the chamber ensemble version in 1986. This version with string orchestra has not been performed professionally, but has been performed by the Children's Orchestra of Princeton (NJ), a community group. The piece is in three movements and is a miniature concerto with the pianist as soloist. It is neoclassical, reminiscent of a Mozart piano concerto. It is very accessible to the audience and easy to play even for young people. The piano solo is not difficult. (See also the versions with piano solo and three treble and one bass instrument; i.e., string quartet, woodwind quartet, etc.)
