Cronus: a time-romance

Waddy Thompson

About this work:
The title refers to a chapter title in Thomas Mann's "The Magic Mountain." In that chapter, the narrator muses about how our perception of time can change because of external events. Elliott Carter's second string quartet is a great example of what Mann was talking about, and this piece is my attempt to address this issue. Static sections contract with flowing passages, and jazz-like sections so it's not all deadly serious!
