In 2006, when I was starting work on Yigdal, my original plan was to pay homage to the style of Sulzer, Lewandowski and all those other Golden age composers. When I hit upon the idea of using the Fraigish mode, all the diatonic material was no longer applicable, so I put it aside. I still liked that diatonic material, so I decided to do another Yigdal setting, this time for TTBB male choir with no soloist.
