Quintet

Erin Rogers

About this work:
Quintet is my second attempt at combining sections of vastly different energy levels within a cohesive formal structure. It moves from intense, grinding forward motion to moments of suspended color and quiet. In writing for five different instruments, I felt compelled to exploit their individual timbral qualities through matching and passing off single pitches. This material inspired further contrast - the formation of rich harmonic chords, where the instrumental timbres combine to create vibrant hues.
