Spencer Lane Extension tells a story about a peculiar little road that I know in Pittsburgh, my hometown. This road connects several widely disparate communities and natural spaces: one area just leads to another and then on to another in the most unexpected ways. It’s hard to believe that it’s one road. The piece operates in the same manner: there is a persistent thread across some of the most tenuous of connections. These connections are made though a surge of incessant development and the transformational process is complete as the work draws to a radiant close.
