Kyripo
Christina Rusnak
About this work:
The title, Kyripo, is of my own invention intended to evoke the exotic. It began as an improvisational work exploring shifting modal harmonies and symmetrical movement.

Instrumentation notes: This piece existed in my fingers long before it emerged on paper. The score attempts to capture the “feel” of the piece as closely as possible. The time signature should be thought of as duration rather than beats. I’ve put with Rubato so the performer can take slight liberties based on the feel of the line. The written dynamics are probably overkill in an attempt to convey what I do; it’s all relative—loud is loud, soft is soft and a balance between the ostinato and the lyrical line. Think Bartok fused with a little Chopin.
