Fugue for Strings

Christina Rusnak

About this work:
Composed in a mid-twentieth century manner, Fugue for Strings is both lyrical and edgy. Performers play both independently and against each other, making its execution more difficult than it appears on the page, but fun.
Version: Revised
Year composed: 2007
Duration: 03:05:20
Ensemble type: Chamber or Jazz Ensemble, Without Voice:String Quartet
Instrumentation: 1 Violin, 1 Viola, 1 Cello, 1 Double bass
Instrumentation notes: The difficulty in performing this piece is that phrases, which require consistent accenting, do not always begin on beat 1. I thought about taking meter out entirely, or having independent metrical bars for each part, but that seemed to create more problems than solutions. So ingore the metric implications of the time signature and perform this in a series of phrases and it will be easier.
