Courage

Adrienne Albert

About this work:
Originally written for orchestra, "Courage for Winds" is a bold, powerful work, rhythmic and melodic work with underlying snare drum military-like heartbeat. Opening melody from the brass is taken over by the woodwinds and then the saxophones. The work has been called inspiring and heartfelt. An outgrowth of my battle with Breast Cancer, "Courage for Winds" speaks to the strength in all of us to overcome adversity in our lives. Jeff Boeckman and the Inland Empire Youth Wind Symphony premiered the work on May 17, 2009. The commissioning consortium members performed Courage for Winds in the following several months. The distinguished and extraordinary Long Beach Municipal Band, under the direction of Larry Curtis, gave four performances of Courage for Winds in their summer series entited "Heros". Brass parts are tricky but worth it! Piccolo players love this piece. This work is particularly suitable for patriotic programming as well as a part of most any concert.
