About this work:
A brass trio plus percussion piece in three movements. Movement I is heavily inspired by Balkan dance music, utilizing dance rhythms and modes, but with an additional modern flare. Movement II is a nocturno that shifts colors, utilizing slow glissandi and multiphonics along with varied percussion sounds. Movement III is a medium slow dance in 7/8, inspired by folk music of Macedonia. The piece was commissioned by tub player Chad Walther.
