This was my first folk song setting derived from The Miner's Reward by Jeni & Billy and Forty-Two Years by Nimrod Workman. It is the opening piece from Suite for the Coal Miner which I hope to finish in 2011.

Instrumentation notes: The double bass part can be performed like an upright bass part from a Jazz ensemble. The other two percussion parts are jawbone and gong. The celesta part can be performed on the piano.
